The Brad Beyond Ball Foundation held a kickoff brunch on Saturday, August 30, in the Ballroom at the Marriott Water Street Hotel in Tampa, Florida.
Dr. Joan Holmes, Chair of the BBB Foundation, welcomed 120 attendees to the foundation’s kickoff event, and Reverend Dr. Dames, Pastor of Allen Temple AME Church in Tampa, Florida, delivered the invocation. Tara Gibson, board member, served as MC of the brunch. Board members who were able to attend the brunch were introduced: Lisa Holmes (Brad’s wife), Tara Gibson, Dr. Lucinda Barron, Mike Toliver, and DeVaughn Jiles. Potential donors, family, friends, and supporters of Brad Holmes were also introduced.
Mike Tolliver, board member, highlighted the program’s goals and structure. He presented an overview of the foundation’s initiatives, emphasizing its focus on mentorship and personal development. The event included a video presentation about Brad Holmes’ journey to becoming the General Manager of the Detroit Lions, starting with being an intern, to scouting, to becoming Executive GM of the Year, 2024 and 2025.
Kevin Willis, news reporter for Tampa Bay 28 ABC News, shared insights on Holmes’ approach to success and leadership. Brad Holmes spoke directly to the athletes, espousing the value of athleticism and indicating that the most critical attributes for success as an athlete are the intangibles, such as being dependable, demonstrating leadership, and character. The brunch ended with a call to action for attendees to support the foundation’s mission of empowering young athletes.
